Player Housing Furniture

Un. Fucking. Believable. There was a second server crash about 4 hours ago, the first since the last one on Oct 2, and it wiped out the property database. Again. These fucking crashes are occurring toward the end of the weekly backup cycle as well, which means the last backup I have is now from almost a full week ago - early in the morning on Oct 6. So once again, almost an entire week of furniture data will be lost and you'll need to go to the DMs, again, to get reimbursement.

I don't know why this is happening, but I am going to start taking daily backups of the databases and servervaults now and will see if I can figure out a way to crash the test server and try to repro the problem so I can hopefully stop this from happening again.

Your hard work is appreciated T. I am replacing the lost furniture and documenting However I may not reposition as that is slightly off kelter on some things very minor which can easily be corrected each time with key

At this time I advise everyone to place furniture only at your own risk, and probably just don't do it, until further notice. Yet another server crash occurred this morning at 8:25 CST, which appeared to be caused by placing furniture, and it wiped out the property database again. Backup DB was replaced from 3:01 CST this morning.

I'll work to test and try to repro the problem, but I'm very busy with RL stuff this week and it may take some time. Will post here again when/if any progress is made.

I have been unable to repro the server crashes that cause the property database to be wiped out. So at this point I am using a Windows task to make a copy of that database every hour if it is large than 1 KB, and when the Thay module loads, there is a check in place that will verify if entries exist in that database. If they do not, the assumption is that the property database somehow got destroyed in a crash again, and it will instead load the backup as the main property database. And even if the backup is still somehow not right, I now I have a daily backup I can fall back to if we need to restore from that as well.

So at this point, go ahead and manipulate furniture again as little to no loss should occur with the backups and workaround in place. I intend for this ugly workaround to exist only until I can figure out the root of the problem. So if anyone is placing furniture and the server crashes, please create a bug report and give as many details as you can think of as to what was going on prior to the crash.

Thayan I noticed the option to save has been removed for the placement dialogue so some items go back to original positions.

I made a change recently so the property database is saved automatically every minute once someone starts placing furniture. Furniture should not go back to their original positions unless there is a crash during that one minute period. If you can consistently repro that this is not the case, post a bug report with steps to do so.

Ok will do when I get home. Essentially in a nutshell I adjust an item and it stays. I leave the house
and come back and item moved. In the report do you want the X, Y, Z Positions listed as to before, changed to then if they moved?
