I jump on occasionally to see if anyone else is around, but haven't had too much luck of late in finding others on.

when do you usually look around?

I'm on US East Coast time, so usually sometime in the evenings during the week.

Does take a lot of work :-( there are some things can help but mostly there isn't much help with soloing....

Things are challenging in combat, but once you work out how to work your character's abilities you can solo with almost anything. But I'm sure we all know how to use traps with a rogue and summons with a wizard. There are still other ways to get the experience and loot to satisfy one's greed. Slaving with a fighter can give a lot of gold and experience and you only need to find lots of easy to kill goblins. Then you can work your way up, grabbing shamans and chieftans etc. I have played rogues, fighters and wizards, all can be soloed successfully. One has to also accept sone deaths, one death put me off back in beta for quite a while, but i'm still here. Tharag demonstrated how to make a good cleric, so any of those four (fighter, rogue, wizard and cleric) could be good choices for soloing. But that said one will die occasionally, you didn't expect this to be easy did you? What sort of character are you playing, perhaps there's some feature you've missed that could make things easier. Though like the factions, not all classes, alignments etc. are created equal within Thay. Particularly good aligned characters have less options such as slaving, they are also subject to more slaver attacks. Of course it'd be nicer to simply have other PCs to adventure with, and I'm not saying we couldn't do with any more DM action. I find it to occasionally be fun, but soloing without getting much exp due to battle fatigue gets old fast, there is nothing really to do in between fights except go to the next one. If it could run a check that there isn't anyone else on within (say) 5 levels, then perhaps it doesn't apply as much.

Grinding is a bore, yes. It will likely only become fixed with a greater amount of players. What happened to the vault ad, perhaps useone of those three already made? This isn't an ideal world though, so servers which already have large playerbases will be the only ones to prosper. After learning so much about Thay it seems like a waste to move elsewhere. I've tried several other PWs recently and just haven't been able to get into them as much. With a greater playerbase, things can start to really feel dangerous in Thay, it was almost a shame when Shiran Nailo was banned, he had you running out of bezantur all the time. The whole grind thing doesn't agree with me either, probably why I don't like trying to get into other PWs with all the hoops you have to jump through. The deliver quests are very dull, but at the same time, so are the "find god-power weapon then give it to me for 200gp" quests. I'd personally like to see more danger from non-combat factors. Corrupt guards come to mind, but I imagine the wishlist is long. I don't really think there are many solutions, but if we sit with 0/30, and don't do anything, nothing will happen. More DMs would attract more players, and more players would make the DMs feel wanted. No-one wants to join until others have. It's a vicious cycle. Hope to see you online Lami, if you do spot the server with players in it, do stop by.

Think a lot of that could be done with DM intervention but there aren't very many at all and i'm not sure if they play anymore too.... Some of the delivery quests do get pretty ridiculous at times with just plain odd or exotic things you couldn't ever hope to find in a store if you find yourself with bad luck finding them. Still wish we could see our reputation or maybe at least the requirements for the factions and prestige classes...
I suppose we could always "player-DM" on our own too and make some generic named characters to play around with until a dm might be around... |
