Lottery Stuff

Recent shoppers visiting Wyren's merchant Cale (presently assigned to the open market while the Alchemy Hut is undergoing "renovations" until November 30th) may have noticed that I've delivered on Wyren's promise on the bulletin boards: The Alchemist's Gold lottery, in which I've done what I think is a clever thing by turning those wax-sealed letters into quasi-medieval scratch-off tickets. Most of Wyren's wax-sealed letters have been found while adventuring (so they're free), and wax and ink aren't all that costly considering how much use you can get out of them. The tickets cost around 6 to 10 Talons each (depending on your Appraise mojo), the lowest prize is 100 Talons and the odds of winning a prize are around 1 in 20, so Wyren's lottery should be able to remain profitable unless someone completely lucks out and picks up all two or three winners without picking any losers (and good luck with that; I think I did a pretty good job mixing the winners into the pool). ;)

But, per Hazlok's counsel, Wyren might need to chat with the Tharchion's office to see if she has the privilege or permission to run this lottery in the first place. How would Wyren and I go about doing that? :-/

I would think maybe send a pm to a dm and maybe have them do a mini event. For Cara to have her shrine to her god accepted, side story and rp were done at an event.

Or run an illegal gambling operation and don't tell anyone.

This... I like this idea.

Just don't let the Hins and Tyraturos mafia find out!

It might be something to bring up on your next council meeting too.

Ah, but the lottery's foremost purpose was always to draw customers into the store. You know, like why our reality's lottery tickets are stocked at fuel stations and convenience stores all over the planet. "Okay, my roommate wanted three Lucky Ducks and two Silver Dollars, and I want ten Witch's Riches...oh, Funyuns! I'd better get a bag of Funyuns while I'm here. Maybe I'll get a 24-pack of Dr. Pepper too. Oh, how long have you guys had those wind chimes in the front window? Mom would love to have one of those...."

Unfortunately, I didn't count on Wyren's merchant skimming so much off the till for his "take", so Wyren's actually losing money on the lottery, which leaves me the alternatives of either A) lowering the payouts (which is a jerkish thing to do) or B) discontinuing the lottery completely and focusing on crafting and selling the potions and scrolls (and, eventually, wands, once Wyren picks up that Feat too). And considering that Wyren only pulls in 2 or 3 Talons for each ticket after the merchant takes his cut, Option B is probably the more viable choice. So get the tickets while they're there.

You might even consider buying a few Elixirs of Beauty or a Potion of Balagarn's Iron Horn while you're at it. :P

(And seriously, how in blue blazes did Brandon Baxter rack up three winning Alchemist's Gold tickets? Either that dude has X-Ray vision or he's half as lucky as Roy Sullivan (well, you know...not counting the suicide thing). Huh )
