This is actually a quick and general question for how things are handled here.
Red wizards in D&D shave there heads and often tatoo them. however in NWN that leaves few head models to be used...
SO... since people here don't start as reds.. what is the policy for baldness being required?

Considering we have tattoo artists who will shave your head, I'd imagine having no hair is fine pre-red wizard tier.
Actually, for that matter, I don't really see a problem with Red Wizards not being bald, it would just not be in their favor since they'd stand out (bigger target for other Reds/not blending with Thayan culture), and wouldn't be able to augment their face with tattoos (perhaps the more important issue since Reds are generally paranoid of assassins and junk).
I wouldn't know the official policy though :P

No standard on being bald or not. It is a personal choice. Though I will say that Mulans do shave their heads, and that is the social norm.
Tempus' orders to all combatants:
1. Be fearless. 2. Never turn away from a fight. 3. Obey the rules of war.

But not mandatory. I believe Szass Tam has hair. If you ever survive to be a red be a rebel in style.
Renee ceratinly is. :)
Hair or not their robes make them stand out.

The issue here stems from the common lore of the land regarding Mulani and their perception of body hair, and the mechanics of NWN with mostly hirsute heads. ;) There is just simply a limitation what we can provide, based on the shortage of bald models out there.
I will say for the upcoming hak changes there are 3 bald human male heads coming in, both with tattoos and without. Now, before you start to scream discrimination at me...I am not a modeler, and I can't make them, I only find them and import them if they meet standards. Ladies, trust me, I have asked the creator of the heads I'm importing to make more, but I have not heard from hm in quite some time; these things happen.
I'll keep looking, but other than us here at Thay, I don't see a mass market for bald tattooed heads of any gender and/or race. :(
Any one interested in learning 3d modeling? ;)

Quoted from Wizards.com, "Lauzoril is one of the few Red Wizards, male or female, to have not shaved and tattooed his pate." So not mandatory at all.

Wow... I'm actually somewhat shocked at just how big this topic became over a simple question. :)

I cant imagine even considering playing a red wizard who isn't as hairless as a Filipino underwear model (of any gender) it's just wrong. There really is no comparison.
This is a
real red wizard
Not these lame wannabes...
I know its hard for the female red wizards but just by changing the skin colour for something darker (because I think most people go too light in general) is the best way to try to stand out and not look like a carbon copy of the wizard standing next to you, that is until we get some new head models but that could be quite some time until we have a larger selection.
Playing: Arizima Haphet
Another option to stand out may be to juxtaposition the color of your character's skin with their tattoo so that in essence the bulk of their skin becomes the tattoo color, and the tattoos are where their natural skin color show through.
I did this with an insane, prophetic Elf I once played here on Thay and it turned out looking pretty interesting in my own opinion.

I've been considering doing this, actually.
