Question on Enchantment forges and level setters
#1
I'm curious to know if the Level Setter item works at all with Enchantment forges. As far as I know the Level Setter item is intended to work when a PC is creating Wands, Potions, or Scrolls. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about that.

But if my character is working at an Enchantment Forge and wants to create an item that casts Mage Armor, a level 1 Wizard spell. I think by default the forge will create an item that casts the spell at the minimum level possible... in this case 1st level. That means that the Mage Armor spell cast by that item will last for 4 minutes. Is there some way to use the Level Setter item in conjunction with the Enchantment forge such that the item would cast it at a higher level and last longer? Obviously it should cost more XP and gold, but is it possible right now? And if not, is there some way to add that capability to the forges?

Thanks :)

I think they're wand/potion/scroll only.

I think so too. But wouldn't it be nice to be able to level set enchantment forged items?

I have no idea how difficult this would be to implement :)

Yeah could be nice, if for nothing else to be able to get a skeleton chieftain instead of a weak tyrantfog zombie, but might negate casters too much if there's not some restriction.

Point taken, but the enchantment forges already limit what enhancements you can give to an item based on notoriety and level. And Thay has ILR in place so characters can't use items that are too powerful for them. Funny story - one of my characters enhanced his main weapon and I stupidly wasn't paying close attention and managed to make the sword unusable to him for the next 10k xp. Oops :)

Anyway, I guess it could happen, but I don't expect PCs to be forging so many items that casters are negated. That would cost a lot of gold and xp.

It would be nice if the forge let you set the level instead of using an item on the forge, it would be easier and more fluid for the creation of items and for the player.

Even if such an option were approved, I wouldn't make such item enchantments available to just anyone. Dedicated spellcasters might know how to better operate the enchantment forge (and to thus squeeze more mana juice out of it than Joe Fighter or Fred Rogue would), so the forge's operator would have to be a Wizard or a Sorcerer (to improve Arcane enchantments) or a Cleric or a Druid (to improve Divine enchantments). If you wanted a sword which casts Magic Missile at a higher Level than the standard, you would need a mid- to high-level Sorcerer or Wizard manning the enchantment forge. If you wanted a robe which casts Cure Critical Wounds at Level 15, you would need a Cleric or a Druid of Level 15 or higher.

Not only would this provide a plausible explanation for why your Fighter can't go around putting Flesh to Stone enchantments on all his equipables, it would also give the spellcasters some degree of control over whether or not they want their own roles to be crowded out by a mess of magic items.

("Hmmm...Joe Fighter's been asking me to enchant quite a few tidbits and baubles for him lately. I suspect that he might be trying to get rid of me....") *ahem* "Joe! The enchantment forge continues to malfunction for me. Perhaps it will be back in working order later." ("...but don't hold your breath, Joe. Heh heh heh....")

Hmm wizards and sorceres able to set levels over the other classes, I see why you would feel that, but there is an argument that if a fighter can use the forge in the first place there isnt much destinction between magic users and none magic users using the forges.

I have my own question here.

Sek (my pc) has a staff. But the game sees it as a misc item so i cant enchant it...SO, what types of items can and cannot be enchanted?
