The PC Quickslot Curse
#1
I understand this is a NwN and not Thay specific bug(?) but I am still not understanding of why these issues persist.

My PC Pyrote cannot seem to handle switching out weaponry very well. I have a ranged and melee quickslots and with a secondary PC I have made here all seems to be functioning well...but poor Pyrote, no powerbuild is he, seems cursed with butter fingers! Generally, when I switch from say a bow, to a shield and sword, only the shield will appear. I will have to click the weapon slot several times for sword to switch or resort to bringing up inventory screen to do so "manually". I had a very unfortunate occurrence of this type a bit ago but my unseen allies came to my defense. This isn't really a complaint but would anyone have an idea why some characters have this defect of dexterity whilst others do not?

The shield/sword slot is the one of general defect. Either the items won't swap into hands, or once swapped will not be unequipped without swapping for a bow say, then to unarmed or via invent. screen. As stated this has only been encountered with one PC.

I can recall this issue on a server I played heavily in the past and same issue. Only a certain PC was affected such and what both have in common is the use of sword. Is the sword item the cause of the issue? I checked out using a morning star with shield for Pyrote and it seems to work better than the sword/shield swaps. If anyone can point out anything I might be doing wrongly or otherwise enlighten me I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

Not sure why this happens, but the easy work around is to separate your sword and shield. This uses an extra quick slot, one for each, but stops the juggling.

Yea its one of those NWN things. Sometimes I just totally empty and reslot.

Marister uses two blades and Rimeth and Cara have sword and shield.

My girls don't carry sword/blade and shield, but I have the same problem with my rogue who dual wields. Only way I get over it is equip bow then re-equip blades...not ideal but does work (this is usually done while running away before I can attack) Lol

I don't have an issue with sword/shield. The issue I run across is with dual blades because it likes to switch you off-hand weapon to you main hand.
Tempus' orders to all combatants:
1. Be fearless. 2. Never turn away from a fight. 3. Obey the rules of war.

You can separate your weapons for dual wielding too but you have to right click the offhand weapon instead of using the hot key. This gives you the option to equip to your offhand.

I've also noticed that the game doesn't always like to unequip shields in combat. Might be part of the issue with the tab thing.

Yes I have experienced that as well.

I've run into this issue plenty with pretty much all of my characters.

From what I can see, weapon & shield or dual weapon will equip when hands are empty, or unequip.

Likewise, from (cross)bow and back again (beware trying this in combat, as it will generally unequip one or the other in one round and then require a second quickslot click in the next round to equip).

I often have a separate quick slot for each weapon, so I can swap while not unequipping a shield. I also generally have a combo quick slot handy for a favorite weapon and shield, and another for a favorite dual wield combo. If I need to swap weapons while using the shield in a fight (what, that goblin elite has piercing resist?... ok, I have a mace), I use the weapon slots. If I need to swap a weapon while dual wielding, I open the inventory screen and do it manually (and hope for the best).

All I can say is, I haven't (yet) had anything drop to the ground bugged and unable to be picked back up because of the inventory bug... so it could be worse.

Hope that helps, or at least gives food/inspiration for strategies.
