Merging Gsids
#1
I am sure GSID isn’t a thing Any more, but I wasn’t sure what else to call it.

I had to take some time off, and looking to ease back into it, but there is a bit of a snag. I had like 3 different downloads of NWN so blew them all out and downloaded clean through steam. It seems however, that doing so means I can no longer access my characters. Is there any way for me to access my old characters? My GSID used to be Fortis. My GSID now is McRib.... because like McDonalds, McRib is back......

Secondly, I have also downloaded nwnee on my phone, but of course had to make yet another gsid for that download, which is SlimShady.

What is the possibility that all three can be combined into one? If only the fortis and McRib accounts can be combined and I have to start fresh with the Apple store version, I understand (and also assume that’s the case).

Thanks for any help!

Thay still uses "GSID" for some of our scripts, so if you intend to play on multiple devices, you will want to have that the same across all of them. The other thing that you need to have the same is your CD keys.

If you still have the CD keys that you originally used, you can swap those out and still use your Fortis ID for logins.

If not, then you need to pick one CD key to use for everything, and ask Balanor if he can sync your CD keys and server vault with the account that you intend to use.

nice! thanks!  I know there is a folder under the installation that holds the cd key. I will try to pull what the new one is, and work it out.

Thay uses the Player Name + CD Key combination to determine what characters show up in your vault. So if either changes, you won't see characters in your vault anymore.

You can change your Player Name by opening up settings.tml (use Notepad) in your C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Neverwinter Nights folder, and then changing the name = "Your NWN User Name" line under [client.identity] toward the top of that file. If you are using the same CD Key that was used when you created PCs on the server with that Player Name, that is all you need to do to login and see your already existing characters.

If you are not using the same CD Key under which you initially created PCs for that Player Name, the cdkey.ini in the same folder as settings.tml is the file that holds your CD Key. Never share this file (not with another player, a server admin, your mother, your dog, or anyone else); but if you have multiple installs of NWN, you can "swap" this file from one to the other and when you login to Thay, it will then use whatever key is listed in there to validate your account along with whatever name you have specified in the settings.tml

I will caveat that I have no idea how this works on mobile though, where these files are located on mobile, and if you can even edit/swap them there, unfortunately.

Finally, while I am reluctant to do this because I don't want to open the floodgates to people requesting their character files be transferred from one account name to another -
If you feel you have a good reason that changing your user name in your settings.tml, or swapping/changing the CD Key in your cdkey.ini will not work long term (or is not working), I can move character files from one servervault to another. This isn't as big of a problem as it was in the non-NWNEE versions of Thay since scripted systems in Thay no longer rely on PC Name + Player Name to uniquely identify a PC. However, as this has not been extensively tested and is not intended, plus it is a manual process for me to do so, I do not want to make it a habit of moving characters from a servervault under one Player Name to another Player Name.

I appreciate it balanor, and I understand. I don’t mind starting over. If I could, it would be nice, but it’s not that important.

I assumed that was the case with mobile. That, I think, I will just keep separate and not worry so much about it.

You can use your same account on moblie. Here is a link to some instructions on how to change your CD key on mobile.

If you have any questions on that, let me know.
