Jannat arrived in Thay via an encounter with her mysterious benefactors. After being separated from her travelling companion, and lover, Mennon, somewhere between Tethyr and Amn, she took refuge in a small city, although she had not had the time to discern her precise location. While trying to speak to the master of a recently arrived caravan, Jannat was inadvertently caught between the caravan, the city's regular militia, and a drow raiding party. Hiding in a barn to avoid the worst of the fighting, she attempted to flee after setting the barn ablaze, hoping to escape under the cover of the smoke. In doing so she caught the attention of a drow tracker, who had noticed her start the fire with a burning hands spell, he decided to take her alive hoping that incapacitating and capturing a wizard would gain the young male some notoriety, had he known that she was a Sorcerer he might have thought to kill her instead, lest she posed a danger.
