Unique Creatures & New Encounters of Thay

Very soon, if you haven't already, your mid-upper level PCs will begin encountering new creatures, and enhanced creatures of those whose lesser brethren you may know well and dispatch with ease. However, the outcome of these new battles may not necessarily be a forgone conclusion as it is with those creatures that you've fought 100 times before or pulled up their stats in the toolset to see just how tough they really are. ;)

It is actually my hope, at least for a little while, that things may truly become a heart-pounding adventure when your PCs encounter that first Dread Wraith, Brass Golem, or Large Malar Panther, and any of the other new creations unique to Thay... I view this is an exciting time since once you encounter these creatures since it will never be the ‘first time’ shock anymore or wondering what exactly you’re up against!

But yet because of this, I cannot stress the following enough, especially as these new creatures are just introduced:
Take things slow, and be prepared to retreat in order to fight another day!
I know this may not be IC for all your PCs, and for those that it is not and those players who RP them as such, I do applaud you. But as with those very brave individuals in a fantasy world or RL, be prepared for the consequences of your bravery (both good or bad!)

I especially want to advise caution because of the following -
The measure of toughness for virtually all creatures in Thay and NWN is by its system-calculated Challenge Rating (CR), and that is how they are grouped and that is what determines what level PC (or party) they spawn for.
However in some cases we have found that some CRs are perhaps too low or too high for certain level PCs. A good example of this are the Half-Orc Bandits who are only CR 7.0, but with their high strength they have a high AB, when they connect with their greataxe they do a tremendous amount of damage. In cases like that, the creature in question is moved to a different CR category.

While I have, and will be, working with others to OOCly playtest these creations with PCs of the appropriate level, there is the possibility you may encounter one of these new creatures that may not seem to fit - either being far too easy or too hard for your PC.
If you believe that a creature you encountered should be moved to a different category, e-mail [email protected] the following -

1. Your PC's name and level
2. If in a party, the other party members and their level
3. The name of the creature encountered
4. Why, in your opinion, the creature was over or underpowered for your level. Examples of attack rolls, spells cast, etc will help in making the case. Screenshots are especially useful.
Do keep in mind that certain classes are going to have an easier time with certain creatures than others. Please only send your concerns on new creatures that are truly a pushover, or seemingly impossible to kill.

Please do not post here in the forums though as your information and situation will likely contain spoilers!

Since there are well over 200 creatures in the new version 3.4 update, please refer to this thread if you have concerns about any or would like to report/discuss a creature encounter problem.

Rather than start a new thread, I would like to use this to bring attention to two things.

First, if you have concerns about certain encounter creatures being too easy or two difficult, you may provide the detailed feedback I ask above to me at any time.

Second, and more importantly; we are seeing an ever-increasing number of upper-level PCs (level 9+). I would like to politely request of each and every upper-level PC that, for the good of your fellow players (not PCs - players), if you enter an encounter area (especially areas like the Bezantur sewers and Bezantur crypts) you do your utmost to thoroughly clean out any monsters/hostiles spawned in that area. It appears we are beginning to encounter more occurrences of low-level PCs running into monsters that cast spells on them they have no hope of saving against or avoiding, or other basically wiping them out in what can barely even be considered a 'fight'
So for upper-levels, by making a conscious effort to clear out an area that you know contains spawns meant for your level, you can help other players continue to enjoy Thay as you do by ensuring they don't run into an encounter they have no hope of winning or even retreating from.
