The Cleansing of the Bezantur City Tombs
#1
Eternal Flame of Kossuth Mythalanir surveyed the Bezantur City Tombs on his way out after he and his vanguard of priests had reached the lower known levels. Now returning back to the entrance he smiled grimly.

“You are pleased, Omniscience?” asked the Most Fervid Walker of Fires Brianna who had come along.

“Yes, quite. I am quite pleased with Aznar Thrul’s legion, and the adventurers of Bezantur. The energies that sustain the undead in this place have greatly diminished. No doubt thanks to their thorough and regular cleansing of the place.”

Brianna nodded in agreement.

“Thanks to their hard work, it is unlikely that the more powerful undead will find any foothold here,” continued Mythalanir. “Sadly, we cannot stop the necromancers and all the other evil that is buried here from forming the lesser undead. But at least the legion’s more powerful champions and the more powerful adventurers will not need to waste their time cleansing this place any longer.”

“PRAISE BE TO THE FIRES OF KOSSUTH,” Brianna started chanting. The other priests and temple guards quickly took up the chant. By the time they reached the crypt entrance, the tombs were literally shaking from the power of the chant.

One by one the priests exited, with Brianna leaving last. She gave a backward glance at the now desolate and silent-as-the-grave tombs behind him. ‘As it should be,’ she thought and turned with a flourish, a smile playing across her face as she realized that the undead in Bezantur had become considerably less of a threat.

Some OOC clarification on this recent event -
Mid level PCs will begin to notice that occasionally the Bezantur crypts will have no treasure or hostile creatures in them. High level PCs will likely notice the crypts almost never have any treasure or hostile creatures when they visit them.

This only affects the Bezantur City Tombs. No other areas/tombs/caves/etc are affected by this change.

Balanor enjoyed the solitude of the Bezantur Crypts. Long ago, when he was newly arrived to Thay, he had gotten to know them well. His battles to put to rest the evil undead that lingered there had helped forge him into the holy warrior he was. Now he came here for peace and contemplation. It was strange, no doubt others might think, but he rarely concerned himself with the views of others.

And especially since returning back to the mortal world from his god’s side, he needed all the contemplation he could find time for since the task laid before him was immense. Hoar had told him a great evil was sweeping over Thay, one that the zulkirs did not even understand. Once more he must brave the depths of the Citadel, he had been told. If only he could remember what had happened before...

Suddenly the darkness before him wavered and the formed into a Death Knight, standing silent and deadly with a wicked-looking sword in hand. Then another stepped from the darkness at Balanor's side. And then another from the other side. What appeared to be a horde of Revenants, vampires, and other even more powerful creatures was gathering and moving behind the first Death Knight as he advanced.

Balanor unsheathed his brightly glowing sword, disappointed that he had been so foolish to walk into such a trap. Powerful evil had indeed been unleashed and the Bezantur Crypts was as affected as the rest of Thay. For a moment he had a fleeting hope he could escape and warn others.

Then they attacked.

In other words: The Bezantur Crypts no longer have a diminishing chance they will spawn no encounters or treasure for mid-upper level PCs.
