Consequences

Getting killed for walking in-between two people is by far the most ridiculous I've ever read and in no way is this acceptable in any real roleplay server. A player cannot control all movements that their characters make and sometimes there are an occasional bumping into another or walking in-between people, if such occur and you choose to make an IC deal out of it you at least say something like "Watch your steps" or similar but this would still not be grounds to actually kill or attack another player.

Evil is not to be mistaken with "Asshattery", "Bullying" and "Kill people who say something that is the slightest improper to my character", there are in fact other qualities that your evil character could have rather than the ones above. Being evil doesn't necessarily have to mean that you're going to be the guy that everyone dislikes OOCly but instead you could be the one that inspires other players and make them say "I like the way you play your character, kudos to you"

One person who I believed pulled off their Chaotic Evil character successfully was by acting like a regular kind and caring person, this person managed to become a leader of a settlement. This gave the player the authority to control a group of people and to deceive them into making evil wrongdoings if she wanted to without actually needing to do them herself.
This is a well played evil character, to do whatever means necessary in the background to achieve their goal. Not saying all have to play this way but it wouldn't hurt if people actually tried to play their evil more cleverly.

My two cents.

Most of the nicest characters on the server walk around with an evil alignment, I have observed, in fact.

And it is something they live up to, just not overtly.

That's a very good thing.

So, in general people agree that it is 'okay' to give someone a beating if they really deserve it. After continious harrasment/annoyance of a higher up person, who has tryed to make them leave/shut up for quite some time, or am I misunderstanding?

To make things clear from the team perspective once again - harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. On the other hand being low level will not shield a character from consequences such as beatings, getting fireballed or enslaved. Take RL as a example, that should really settle everything.

I felt that I should point something out.

Some characters act in ways that are not considered 'befitting the reputation/station' of important and/or evil bastards of Thay because of a simple reason.

This reason is that, despite what the evil character may think he is owed or how he should be treated, it can be very in character for such a character to do so.

This for a variety of reasons, of which some simple ones can be:
- they are new to Thay and have no idea (yet) that the law does not protect them;
- They have no clue who is dangerous as they don't know local reputations (yet);
- They are simply socially not skilled and/or just plain unwise or dumb, or are spoiling for a fight.
- And so on, and so on.

I understand that this may rub some people (who play the evil bastards) the wrong way but, as long as the player is willing to let their character face the consequences for it, I think such behavior is in no way wrong.

Afterall, if one says 'your character is not reacting the way I expect it to, thus it's not doing so the right way' you're basically saying 'you don't play the way I want or expect you to - even though you don't know why it's being done so'.

Just my two cents, and I hope no one takes it as an insult.
(You don't even have to agree with it *grins*)
And comments are welcome of course.

Well people aren't saying that everyone HAS to respect the evil bastards, the problem is that some people do not wish to face the consequences OOC and therefore complains/whines to the evil bastard.

And if you are new in a city and have no idea how things work, the worst thing you can do is walk up to the nearest Plated/Robed guy or people with a retinue (Knights,Minions..ETC) and insult him or make fun of him.

I agree with the above, very well put. Everyone has different styles of rp and that needs to be concidered. If your are not a fan of PVP then do your homework observe and walk away.
So far the bastards I have come across with play their evil nature very well. They are Vortar, Ihskar,and Maurin. They scream don't mess with me but are still approachable. :P
(Yes this is reflecting IG not calling the players bastards and yes I know there are other bastards out there but these stand out.)

Just to play Devils advocate,

If you pushed your way in between Al Capone and one of his enforcers, I doubt you would have walked much further. You can replace that with most any ruthless people in RL. There is a long history of saving face, or dealing with a lack of respect. To ignore showed weakness.

So IMO, it's not that hard to believe shouldering your way through notorious nasties would end poorly for someone.

if you transition into an area and are forced to walk between two people due to walkmesh or pathing issues (both being OOC) and NOT because you are being a dick.... is it still ok to kill the foo'?

just checking before I make a new PC and get killed for ooc reasons... I fully intend to die for IC reasons here :D
Might get a wee bit dangerous there, Sugarbutt.

The example cited of getting killed for walking between people I have not heard of or seen, but it has to be considered that there might have been an IC reason beyond what the poster described for the actions taken. Don't just assume that because someone posts here complaining of such an action that this is anywhere near the norm for PCs to get beat down for doing nothing. 75% of the time a beat down occurrs because the beaten party is being purposefully rude to someone they shouldn't be. If its obvious someone is new to the game itself, more often than not they are given some slack, but don't let that make you think that there aren't consequences for bad ic behavior.

On another subject, the majority of very evil PCs are much more creative than simply killing other PCs. Death by another player is extremely rare and normally only happens when a PC has been habitually obnoxious, a certain paladin by the name of Sirius comes to mind. If a large dog snaps at you, you should leave the large dog alone instead of poke it with a moral stick. Otherwise expect to get bit and don't cry when it happens.
