Encouraging PC Interaction and Teamwork
#1
Greetings everyone.

In an effort to encourage teamwork and PC interaction in the PW, I would like to bring attention to a change in the combat XP system which recently occurred.

First off, whenever you party with another PC, you will no longer split XP for a kill. Instead, you will both receive *full* XP for the kill. In addition, for each person in your party, you receive a 10% bonus to the XP reward as well. So, for example, assume you and another person party up and you kill a monster. If that monster would have normally given you 20 XP when you were adventuring alone, it will now give you 22 XP (+10%) when you are with someone else. Now, say perhaps you get 6 people together. This means you would receive 30 XP (+50%) for the kill, instead of your normal 20 XP.

Please note though that parties of greatly differing levels are not advised, because you will begin to take an XP reduction if you are more than 3 levels greater or less than the average party level. If you are more than 5 levels above the average party level, you will take a significant XP reduction.
Full Details on the Combat XP System can be found here: http://thaypw.7th-sphere.net/showthread.php?tid=259

In addition to this change to combat XP to hopefully help encourage PC interaction, I would like to point out that if you are in a party with someone and they complete a quest, as long as you are nearby them you will receive XP for the quest as well.

Finally, I’d also like to get any opinions on what other automated/scripted ‘things’ can be done to help further encourage teamwork and PC interaction. Any ideas?

Hmm... how about special questgivers who give out a quests to parties only, not to solo PC's? So PC's may actually need to seek out others to beging such a quest...

I like that idea. Maybe someone who'd hand out a quest only to people of combining strengths, expecting them to be more successful with someone else.

Also, what about increasing (slightly) the likelihood of finding an item you are questing for, based on how many people you are traveling with (or if you're traveling with at least one other PC)? That way, even if people do have individual quests, you could still be motivated in that way to travel with others.

I also will point out, I noticed yesterday that I received quest XP and gold from a party member, even though I wasn't in the same area when they turned in their 'quest' reward. Not sure if this was a bug or intended ('nearby them' I took to mean in the same area, but I was I think in the inn, and they were in a temple).
