Hello everyone. Over the course of the last few months, the subject of a potential reboot has come up a few times. The staff have discussed it and we've decided that we WILL be restarting the server. 

So, what does this mean? Well, first, there is no definitive time for this, however it is still a handful of months away. There are a few things both in and out of game that require attention before we can reboot the server, and as we get closer to completing the necessary work we will update you with a more concrete date. 

Even with this decision your character(s) still matter. Your current character progression will be reflected in a number of rewards available for the next iteration of the server: 

1) We encourage you to still be active from now until the end. In doing so you can receive a one-time reward on the next iteration that can range from higher starting gold, starting items, a building/merchant deed, being able to create a PC from a noble house or even having your old PC become an NPC for the "new" world! If you have any suggestions for incentives you can mention it in the proper thread in the "Suggestions" channel on Discord. 

2) If your PC(s) have certain RP goals that you want them to achieve before the reboot, you can message DM Ninja. Do you want to become the leader of your faction? Do you want to become the most notorious gladiator, or take over as the Zulkir of your school? Because we are nearing an "endgame," these goals do not necessarily have to fit into Forgotten Realms canon. We are not guaranteeing success, but your options are open!

In regard to point #1 in Ninja's post above, I'd like to provide a few additional examples that active and/or long-term players may select for special compensation from the following list. Certain "lesser" incentives can be combined - such as bonus gold coupled with a building deed to help purchase furniture for it.

-Bonus Gold
-Building and/or Merchant Deed(s)
-Special starting item(s) with properties requested by the PC and approved by the DMs
-Start with a unique benefit that a DM can provide such as additional known languages (including telepathy), knowing the Arcane Combat Style, and so on
-Start with enough notoriety (only) to join a guild, temple, or legion of your new PC's choice
-Start with a unicorn or nightmare mount
-Never have assassins attack your PC
-Never have slavers attack your PC
-Create a new PC with a special background, title, or position (Thayan Noble, Autharch, etc)*
-Retire an existing PC (can't be recreated after the reboot) and place in the world as a NPC Questgiver, Faction Contact or Leader, Boss Enemy, etc*
-Create one special building or location (house, tower, potential faction headquarters, planar pocket, etc) in the world to which your new PC may have access. It will be the player's responsibility to create the area either in the toolset, or decorate it as a player-owned building in-game prior to the reboot

*The caveat here is that it cannot conflict with source material though.

Note that this list is not all-encompassing and while you can certainly request something beyond what is listed here, please be aware that requests which require moderate-to-considerable design work will likely not be approved outright. I also encourage all players to take advantage of point #2 to have your current PCs accomplish their "wildest dreams" in the current iteration of Thay, and then consider what benefit(s) you would like for a new PC in point #1. Reach out to a DM with your ideas to make it happen!

Greetings everyone! As those of you on the Player discord may be aware; our plan is to do the setting reboot on November 3, 2023. We hope to see you in the days leading up to, and the days after, that momentous occasion.

Please note that due to the large number of player special compensation requests already received for the reboot, and the estimated amount of time it will take to accomplish those alone, we will need to put a deadline on requests so I can prioritize and work on all that needs to be done to get them completed. As a result, the deadline to get your special requests submitted (see the post above for some possible options) to a DM or another staff member is October 1, 2023.

Sooner is better since every request does get discussed and needs to be approved. Since not all have been, I'd highly recommend submitting your requests at least a week ahead of that deadline to ensure that, should it not get approved, you can discuss details with a DM about options and perhaps revise it and try again.

The momentous day draws nigh! And to give a bit more of a timeline for our November 3 reboot; the server will be shut down around 8:00 AM Central time on Friday, November 3, which will be the official end to the 3rd edition of the Thay persistent world. After that, the server vaults and databases will be cleared, a number of updates will be applied, and I'll be doing some verification of things within 4th edition module while the server will be temporarily password protected. I am estimating around 1-2 hours to complete these steps.

So if all goes well, the ultimate goal though is to remove the temporary password and start the 4th edition of Thay and the Underdark at 10:00 AM Central time on November 3!!!

Also, I'd like to mention that the custom content download for Thay has been significantly revised (behind the scenes) and over 1 GB of (uncompressed) new content has been added to it. This means when you first connect to the server after we begin our 4th edition, there will be a large automatic download that will occur for every player, as well.

Giving this thread one final bump to remind everyone that tomorrow around 10:00 AM, approximately ~24 hours from the time of this post, the Thay PW will undergo a setting reboot.

In the meantime, feel free to login to the last hours of the 3rd edition server and see how many undead you can kill while listening to The Final Countdown on loop (it's 5 minutes long, so you'll only get to listen to it around 288 times over the next 24 hours)!
