We Could possibly have something to do with trades in between towns. I was thinking possibly different brews from different taverns, or slave trade between town. Like if Crow had a rusty anchor brew your character could lead a venture to Thas and the inn keeper there would buy a few kegs from you for a smaller sum of money than an innkeeper farther away would pay. just a late night thought.....

Going one step further, perhaps having full blown jobs could be something to look into. Doing a repetitive task to earn a sum of money like say, moving crates from a dock storehouse into the cargo hold of a boat. Being a bouncer at a tavern/mopping up blood from a taverns floor etc. I once knew a player on another server actually spent their entire time doing nothing but being a waitress at the local tavern! For them, it was good fun.

I had a character WAY back in the day in beta (before I was a DM) who was a waitress and the Rusty Anchor. It was actually a cover as she was working directly for the then thieves' guild boss, but she did have to clean up vomit on a few occasions. It was actually rather fun.

They are good ideas.
However, with our current lack of players, and the fact that even when several people are online at once, we're lucky to get more than two of them together for actual RP for more than three minutes, I'd be somewhat reluctant to endorse even more reasons for characters to wander around by themselves. Of course, it's not like these ideas couldn't (easily) be used to promote RP between characters (much like every automated quest COULD be used), which at the moment should be our top priority. Otherwise, we're basically playing a single player game where a few people might occasionally be in the country at the same time.
