Can I have just one class when multiclassing?

For example Druid XX/ Shifter XX/ Monk 1.

As long as there is an in-character reason for taking the class, I don't see a problem with it. Although I know with Monk and Paladin orders the DMs sometimes have reservations if you did not take Monk or Paladin first.

So unless Jafin, our Head DM, has any concerns about it I would think you're fine. If you have any questions on a build, or want to make sure there won't be a problem creating it, feel free to e-mail dm@thaypw.org with a backstory for the character too.

Strictly speaking, you can indeed take only one level of a class. It's always important to just make sure it fits with the RP of a character. Indeed, in the official Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, Elminster has just one level of Fighter because several hundred years in the past he was indeed a fighter (specifically a brigand I think...). So you can take however many levels in any given class you want. Remember there ARE restrictions in prestige classes though.

Oh, and I have a pet peeve with taking just one level of Shadowdancer ;)

For me, the top three go like this;
* 1 level of Paladin
* 1 level of Monk
* 1 level of Shadowdancer

Unless it was me that did it of course =P
