The Map of Thay, Bigger and Prettier!
#11
Gust has been working on a survey of Thay since his arrival. It's still a work in progress, many areas (especially east of Eltabbar and the northeast corner) need to be resurveyed for accuracy. I --his publisher-- have been dragging my feet in getting this posted for him. He told me I needed to hurry as there are now others who are taking up the surveyors plight and might beat him to the punch.

Here is the map that he has been using in his explorations.

Two thumbs up!!! Great work!

From this I see that I need to change one of the areas south of Lake Umber to a Coastal area - so thanks for that. This also really shows me that I need to get working faster on the static areas in High Thay so you can start adventuring there as well! There is actually an overall design plan for opening more exploration of Thay:
1. Thazar Keep
2. Thralgard Keep
3. Smoking Keep
[Open High Thay for Exploration]
4. Umratharos [To be made available via ship from Eltabbar - will not be able to leave the city until the Northern Plateau of Thay is open for exploration, however]
5. Long Portage [To be made available via ship from Eltabbar - will not be able to leave the area until the Northern Plateau of Thay is open for exploration, however]
6. Thossos Ruins
7. Ruins of Delhumide
8. Gauros Keep
[Open the Northern Plateau of Thay for Exploration with Chur Gathos as a placeholder area (like Thazar Keep is now)]
9. Chur Gathos
10. Surthay
[Open ALL of Thay for exploration]

So just 10 simple steps are left and all of Thay will be at your feet. So...umm....if anyone is interested in design work to help/handle one of these 'simple' steps, send me a PM. ;)

Thanks, Thayan!

Much of the Priador region was carried over from Wids great job on the original map. I do know the one area south of Lake Umber is a costal region but the area to the west of it I'm not sure. I see on Wids map it is shown as being coastal so it might actually already be and my map needs the updating.

The area east of Eltabbar I had mapped at one time but it seemed nonsensical to me cause I expected it to be a single coastal tile, but it looked like Gust was walking over Lake Thay. I think that survey was early on when there was some weird transistion issues going on so I wrote question marks by all of it and marked it for future explorations.

The hills around the Surag Headwaters had Gust usually fleeing for his life, so some accuracy might be off there as well.

If you're talking about the area that's on the south edge of Lake Umber and right on the border of Aglarond, that's a Coast too. Eilbren was there just last week, jumping onto an island and shooting at an Orc Hunter and some Kobold Scouts en route from Nethjet to Murbant. Aglarond's borders are still closed against those filthy Thayan emigrants, of course. :P

I was delighted to see how much of Thay Thayan had added to the server world in my absence. "Wow, we can walk through Amruthar, Pyarados and Moszabbar now! And they have their own sewers, crypts, Thug spawns and marketplaces. This is liquid excellence!" And if no one has thrown a pool party at Moszabbar's hot springs yet, then someone should. :)

I guess I can stop mapping the new areas of Thay now that you've beaten me to it with equally great work. I'll just use your map instead. Or do you need Eilbren and her healthy stealth skills and Camouflage spells to sneak around and scout the Surag Headwaters too?

And are the squares in the white "terra incognita" part of the map areas of interest which haven't been added to the server world yet? I'll check a Map of Thay sometime and make sure. :)

I just wanted to say that this thing is awesome and it's saved my skin on more than one occasion when the in-game map just wasn't enough.

Thank you for this map!!!

And keep up the good work! :D
