Permadeath Discussion and Poll

:) I am not a dm or anything, but I felt the need to repost in a constructive manner regarding your post, LifeLikeSage. Your post seems to infer a no penalty death system. I think that most of us would agree that death here is somethign to be avoided. If not then we could stand in the square and kill each other for an hour. We all know that the xp and Notoriety penalty is steep. However, I voted no, because I am against any stand that punishes soloing. I believe that RP should be encouraged but not however mandatory.

When you begin speaking about punishing solo play, ultimately you are setting the guidelines on when a person can or cannot play. So if I were to log onto Conner and no one is on, I need to find something else to do? I think you're post is well thought out, informative and indicative of someone who enjoys rping as a whole. I merely thought I would comment for my own edification.

As an old player returned (Hey to all of you!) I have and still do vote to keep permadeath out of the picture. Yes it may come in handy with RP, yes it makes people more cautious. But it hurts the gameplay and really makes people annoyed and that much more likely not to play. As a player i'd accept a characters death, i'd be extreamly pissed about it becasue I consider all my characters very dear, but I would do it to help the Thay community. However, the fugue plane offers an experince that cannot be denied. How often are you shown how powerful magic can really be? In a magic-based socieity you NEED these reminders. In Thay, no matter who you are, there is someone else above you that can destroy you like a bug, or reward you like a king. And to me, the fugue plane and the chance to see a higher power really makes ME want to play

I cant speak for all of you and I wont presume to do so, but permadeath brings a great deal of saddness and anger to every player. You have a influencal character who no one would dare attack in the right mind, and you get hit by a couple of lucky critical hits and all of that is over. No respawn, nothing. You. Are. Dead. And while this can help in many cases, I dont see the real worth of it.

Well, theres my rant for the day, but in all seriousness, I really dont think permadeath should be included and it would hurt the Thayan Community

After returning home from my last road trip, I have had the unfortunate curse of playing on a work modem that seems to enjoy timing out.

Which to no surprise, means I have died due to player side crashing. The last one this early morning, sending me to the fuge, was the highlight of my crasing career. It is beyond frustrating to see that I lost exp and noteriety with my latest crash/freeze. But had I also learned that my character would now be perma dead, I don't think I would have gotten over that.

So yes, adventure death is something to avoid. But when you add in death to something like a faulty modem, sometimes a permadeath system has very drastic side effects.

I would like the option to decide when my character dies, and I may do it one day. But I dont want it to be something my P.O.S work equipment decided for me.

Now that all said, I need to try and find motivation again. That Fuge plane HURTS! :)

Oh, I thought this was about getting rid of the fugue wizard, so the option to lose xp and noteriety would then be removed.

This poll has been open for a month for discussion. Thank you everyone who took the time and responded to it.
As it stands now, there is overwhelming support to leave the death system as it is rather than go back to a (semi-)permadeath system like we had in the past. Therefore, rather than discuss this among the staff, I am making the executive decision that Thay's death and dying system will remain as it is.

I hesitate to say this will be a permanent decision; however at this time I foresee that if any changes are made to the way death and dying is handled in Thay, they will most likely not ever result in PCs being unable to get out of the Fugue Plain on their own. Therefore, Thay will remain a non-permadeath world. <insert cheers or boos at this time>

I am closing this thread now, and any future concerns/comments/questions/feedback/etc in regard to Thay's death system should be directed to either KTA or myself.
