I kind of like that idea Karilynn, but it would be a bit more work than I want to put into this at the moment. However, DMs will have the ability to remove a faction hold on advancement, as will any other member of appropriate rank. So the affected PC doesn't necessarily have to wait for the person that put the hold on them to remove it - the ranking member can discuss an amount of time ICly to a certain amount of time the hold will be in place and when they should get together to review it, or the affected PC can try to go behind the ranking members back to another ranking member and see if they will lift it, or (if all else fails), the affected PC could try to work something out ICly with one of our kind, compassionate, and bleeding-heart DMs.
