BrandenburgAngel I've always felt is has been about it journey and not the destination. More than anything I feel like is a chance for my character re-live that. A rejuvenation of sorts if you would.

Oh I agree soooooooo much... I tend to level only when I'm really after a particular ability or score increase to reflect character development or when I'm tired of being left behind because higher levels are jaunting out to a neat area that I can't reach without risking uber death.

And actually, I am liking the thought that went into this. :) Even on a non-epic server, keeping the level of PC's at a sane level is a concern, and the staff here has found a very good way to balance the need for a Player to feel that their character has influence (here through Notoriety) vs the way that was used in the past on so many PW's (i.e. character level). Now players can truly focus on using Role Play to tell their story, vs gaining the necessary levels to justify the story they want to tell ("I'm a person of influence! Ph3ar me!" *koff, level 2, koff*)

As well, if more players are lower level, then game balance is easier to achieve (as player level spread is not so disparate), making the design process more streamlined for Designers. :)

First of all not all of us "slammed" their way to level 20. Myself it took a little over a year and just recently occurred.
It was through hard work and rp.
At first I chafed but since at level 15 we would not lose what we had gained in ranking, xp and note softened the blow.
It does provide us a chance to redo our advancement and life goal.

Shifting away from the gushing, it may be useful to clarify how one obtains the new character bonuses from retiring their higher levels. I assume it requires you to Fugue a PC and use the usual option or will !delete work until further notice also, otherwise anyone at level 15 will not be level 5 upon starting but level 7.

I should have adjusted my word choice, I apologize. I was in no way denigrating those who have put forth hours, days, months of effort into a character to let them attain a high level and IC power. If you've got a certain level, you've obviously earned it, and no one would be here if they didn't love roleplaying. ^^

But I just miss that feeling of XP-Progression, like being able to say at the end of a session "Damn, I only need like 1k XP for my next level now, better start planning on what skills/feats I want."

You can store it and wait until you reach the minimal level for it again.

Or, you can remove the enchantments at the forge(for the most part, that's inexpensive) and then reapply them later(the more expensive part).

And it is likely those people who are smarting from these changes. Please be careful of what you say and do not pour salt into the very fresh wounds. When retiring a PC, it will take the total amount of XP stored in the new system. For high-level PCs, if you were a level 16 before this for example, you are still considered a level 16 for purposes of retiring your PC and you will start a new PC at half those levels (level 8).

After having considered getting rid of the Fugue restriction in the past I'll go ahead and do that. So with next server reset (within the next 24 hours at the most), I'll remove the restriction that a PC must be retired in the Fugue for a new PC to get half their levels. At that point you'll be able to delete a PC anywhere with the !delete command, and a new PC can be created at half levels.
