At this time I would have to say no. While this faction has been on the back burner for a long, long time in recent months it's come closer to the forefront and with it's impending creation, I'd ask that you instead play that you are an aspiring member rather than an actual member. When it's done, you'll be able to join.

It's doubtful that monks will go non-hostile to PCs. Once this gets completed the Monks in Thay will probably be changed to just generic monks anyway. I recently took out lycans and vampires going non-hostile to PCs not only because PCs would attack them anyway, but because not every lycan/vampire is going to be friendly with other lycan/vampires - just like not every cleric/druid/fighter/elf/human you meet is not necessarily going to be friendly to a PC with the same corresponding class/race.

The monks which have attacked Caramiriel have been of the long death and seemed to be marked immortal as you cannot damage them.
