Does Bane ever come back?

Last time he returned as part of the very last event on that run of the server, so it will likely be the same this time around...I would be very surprised and my mind would be blown, if Thayan decidede to skip source material on this matter..


So, yes he will be back..But not in time for anyone to be a Cleric of a living Bane.

Actually, while that may have been his first in game appearance, he had returned from the dead long before that canonically, and priests of a living Bane were possible.

I've consulted the Grand History of the Realms just in case, as it's the biggest compendium with sources from sourcebooks and novels alike, and it only points to Bane's return in the year 1372. If I'm not mistakened, Szass Tam is actually the one responsible for Bane's resurrection.

I knew he burst out of Xvim at some point, and assumed that had already happened considering Xvim's temple was closed as a joinable faction while Bane's 2 temples stayed open and nobody specifically pointed out that he was dead. But the wiki does say Bane's resurrection was probably caused by Tam, who performed a summoning that same night.

The temples to Bane were open during his death as well, as some Clergymen remained loyal to him. Though I think it was Cyric that granted them spells during this time, I'm not 100% about it though.

With any god who is technically dead according to source lore, in Thay they are still available to select as a PC's patron deity. In these cases it is actually some other god either masquerading as the dead deity, or at providing these misguided/fanatical individuals spells in the name of the dead god for [insert reasons known only to the god granting the spells].

In some cases, like the worship of Bane, Cyric continued to grant the faithful spells even if they still prayed to Bane...for awhile...

The First Banedeath: The First Banedeath begins as a holy war in Zhentil Keep. The Banedeath was an inquisition launched by Cyric through his agent Xeno Mirrormane. Xeno led the followers of Cyric through the dark, twisted streets of Zhentil Keep in an attempt to cleanse the city of all Banite worship. The Banites were given two choices: worship Cyric or explain to him in person why he was not worthy of worship.

Cyric did not grant any priests of Bane powers, no. He was viciously opposed to any and all clerics of Bane still in activity, so much so He encouraged two Banedeath pogroms against any remaining priests of him in the Moonsea region. The bitterness between the two clergies goes back a fair bit.

Rather, what clerics of Bane remained were, like as not, to simply convert to Iyachtu Xvim, his son, or to Cyric himself during this interdeium. Even then, Xvim had to be released from Zhentil Keep in 1368 first in order to become a lesser God and be actively worshipped across the world as such.

I think it was more the fact that the House of Xvim came, and then went, that convinced me Bane was already risen, rather than the fact that Bane's temples were still active.
