Assistance Developing Player Housing Feature Thread
#1
This is something I have already brought up to Miscr3ant as we've been talking about the housing system recently, but I'd like to expand this and get input from anyone who is interested in helping out. Since the player housing system is one of the more massive, and at times complex, features of the Thay PW, it's probably past due that it gets its own section in the in-game player guide and its own thread in the Server Features subforum.

If you're interesting in contributing to it, I could use assistance by having others provide details, quirks, tips, etc in a type of narrative format that I/we can edit and pull together, to come up with a comprehensive feature explanation. I'm not looking for a step-by-step on how to use each part of the housing system though, but rather more of an outline to give people a general idea of the things available. As with the other feature threads, this will have a similar format in which I'd like to see the following as main topics within it:

1. Overview
-How to Purchase

2. Building Types

3. Taxes and Maintenance

4. Setting up Shop (Placing a player-owned merchant in a building)

5. Home Improvement and Protection
-Decorations and Furniture
-Doors (Changing lock DC, hardness, hit points, open or locked)

6. Tips and Recommendations

If there are other categories of topics that should be added instead, provide your recommendations and housing detail information below as well.

You know I'm on board, Thayan. :) Do me a favor and e-mail me an erf with all the various floor plans for the various sizes of housing, would you? That will help with what I have in mind. :)

I'm going to put this here in the hopes we can avoid bug reports on it: but after tonight's server reset, when a furniture item is placed, you're going to be given its coordinates. This is part of a new feature enhancement which will be officially released with the next server update, so please don't worry about those messages when you get them - they are there right now for testing purposes. More will be explained later at server update time regarding the purpose of those numbers.

One thing that would be nice, if we had an item, perhaps the Thay Player Guide (I think is what it's called), that we could use on a Housing door, that would tell us who owns it. Or, at the very least, whether or not it is available to purchase. That way, when we are able to buy a house, if we have our hearts set on one, we would know prior to the purchase if it is up for sale.

How's that sound?

I think that is already in place. If you click on a door and the building is owned it will say.

Huh? If you click on a Housing Door, it displays it is occupied? I don't think I made myself clear.

I was referring to a tool of some kind to use on a door in an area that has housing, that would declare if the building is available to purchase. If I am in an area that has a Medium House, and it is the only one in that area, I would like to know if I can run to the deedmaster and purchase a Medium House deed...and run back to buy this house. Currently, I need a deed to tell me if it is already occupied. I'd like to know before I buy the deed.

Am I mistaken?

Oh I see. I think you have to buy a deed first. A way to check is maybe look on a door of a home already occupied?

With the next server update, players will be able to click on a door and find out of its vacant or owned. Owners of a building will be able to name their property (which is basically just changing the door's name) and that will be persistently saved, and depending on the name or settings on the door, others will be notified who is the owner - or just that it is owned by 'someone' if the owner wants to stay anonymous.

Oh, and writing quills will work on exterior doors if you want to give them a persistent description, too.

More details on all this will be coming in the housing feature thread.
