Possible Housing Suggestion?

On the topic of housing floor plans... do all of the manors have the same layout?

Yes, they are.

While I typically don't get involved in public design suggestions/improvements, I want to let everyone know that with the next server update in a couple weeks you will be able to 'renovate' your building interior. Which means if your building doesn't have a floor plan you like, for half the undiscounted cost of a building deed for that building type, you'll be able to choose a different floorplan for it. The reason I mention this now is because, if you do this, you *will lose* all interior door improvements - because not only are you gutting everything in your house, but the doors are going to be different in the new floorplan. So stop/don't make interior door improvements on your current floor plan if you don't like it and think you'll be changing it.
Also, if you would like to see a new floorplan for a building type, download the just-updated Thay PW Base Module and Design Guidelines zip file. In addition to providing new and even better designed areas as examples that Thay PW builders should strive to emulate, it now also has a new document in it explaining how to create your own building floorplan. Once its submitted it to me and approved (there's really not much to these areas, so this hopefully won't be much of an issue), you'll be able to select it in-game once I've included it in the gameworld. Note that providing a floor plan is a one-time-per-player offer only, because these floorplans take up space in the module (as well as a little time from me to implement), so I can't be putting in a new floor plan for each PC you have. All this information will be in the upcoming Player Owned Building feature thread and in-game guide to be posted with the next server update.

Excellent housing engine forthcoming! And a cost to renovate is a GREAT idea!!! Love this system!

A question, as I did not see it in the instructions. I understand using the doors in the palette; one wants to make sure tags and scripts are proper. :) Are we locked in to the door appearance however? I can see it being yes if you wish to utilize submitted floorplans for future houses, and wish them to be generic, as other prospective buyers may not wish for a steel death's head door for example. :)
The same with sound as well. I may have an idea for a smithy in one room, so will place that sound effect. Another might wish that to be formal dining, etc. Oh! Reading further down, I would assume I would make the copy of the area to have generic doors, and can adjust my version. Am I correct in my thinking? And taking it one step further, this would also apply to generic vs custom music, visuals, etc. If so, I would recommend folks build a generic version first, create their copy, then adjust sound, lighting, etc. :)
Yes, copying one of the existing Building areas and then modifying that copy is probably the easiest way to start. However, if you want to use a different tileset, then make sure you look at the Properties of one of the existing areas and put the 3 scripts in the area events. It's a little more manual work to do that, which is why I just setup the how-to document to make a copy of an existing area.
You can change the appearance of the interior door, yes. In fact, I'd encourage it. You can create your own custom sounds as well. BUT, the sounds really need to match what is in the tile without too much embellishment. This is because, as you alluded to, that a floorplan you create could potentially be used by others as well. So rather specific sounds, like prostitute calls in an area you are planning to make a brothel (for example), I will likely end up taking out since not everyone may use that floorplan/room for a brothel. In your example, if you actually place a smithy room from the tileset, then smithy sounds in it are very appropriate no matter who has that floorplan.

I don't think I was clear, so let me explain further. :)
I created a new floorplan. I call it floorplan001, and add/ link doors, put seat waypoints on the nailed-to-the-floor chairs :P, torch sounds on torches, nap pads near the beds. ;) I then create a copy, calling it floorplan002. As I understand it, this is so all those who sing paeans of joy upon seeing my (slightly) different plan can then purchase one as well. lol At this point it is an exact replica of 001, just with different door tags and area tag/resref. :) Now, I go back to area 001 and change lighting, door appearances, music, add funky placeable sounds, etc. ;) All to suit my particular vision. Is the above scenario allowed? Or do the two areas need to be exactly alike for scripting purposes, generating a new interior once the hordes of adoring fans rush to purchase my (slightly) different layout? :P
