Has anyone ever taken the Taunt skill and used it in combat? What are your thoughts on it?
Having had it used against my characters with some success, I'm thinking about a new character and considering taking it. I've never used it before, but looking into it the DC is against Concentration which few heavily armored types take and it can reduce the opponents AC by up to 6 for 5 rounds. That sounds good, but I'd have to invest quite a few skill points to have a good chance of success.

Don't forget that taunt also messes with spellcaster's ability to cast spells. Taunt is excellent for dealing with slow/dumb opponents that don't run away when their AC is decreased.

Good point. It's a 30% chance of spell failure, but on the flip side I'd expect most spellcasters to have a lot of skill points in Concentration.

Additionally, taunting leave you open to getting sneak attacked. In my experience it works best when used in a party when the person taunting is not the main tank.

Yes it is more risky if done alone. My character garbage has taunt skill and tried but failed once or twice though it seems npc's never do. However when Garbage has his legionnaire a goblin who uses taunt alot the gob is more successful as garbage is keeping the target engaged

Well, I've definitely seen NPCs fail with Taunting. And the skill check doesn't have anything to do with whether or not the target is fighting someone else based on what I've read.

Yes you are correct Hell. Come to think if it they have though their success rate better than my pc at least.
For the most part I do not even use it. As you said for it to be affective one would need to put points in into it

I praise the taunt skill. I have seen it change the course of a fight so many times it's unreal. I'm kind of shocked it's not used more, especially at the lower levels when actually hitting your foe is a problem.
I was first made hip to this by kta and I have always used it since. My use of it usually wanes about levels 8 or 10 but even then I will whip out it when I have trouble stiking my foe on the rare occassion. At the lower levels, I will usually open up a fight with it when possible.
This is a good skill to take in my opinion. It also has a decent duration and a recycle time.

My character...Yashana....uses it a lot and very rarely fails. I love this skill and highly recommend using it. It also aids in subduing when slaving. (if that's your 'thing').
It's a great skill against those mounted warriors you come across whose mounted combat skills tend to block your attacks. :)
