The Daramos: This is a new family, based around the Tharchion of Thazalhar and consisting of him, his wife (who rides as a member of his guard) and their two small children.

The Tharch of Thazalhar. This is a purely military Tharch responsible for patrolling the trade roads between Pyarados and the Mulhorand border on the other side of the River of the Dawn. The Tharchion is Milsantos Daramos, a 7th level lawful evil fighter who commands three small troops of cavalry.
Their main purpose is to guard caravans and put down marauding monsters who may be accumulating a power base in the wasteland. Ostensibly, the Tharchion’s seat is at Pyarados, but Milsantos has little love for Valerios, so he is mostly on the trail, camping at one of several familiar sites along the caravan path. His troops are known to be the hardest-riding and longest-enduring troopers in Thay, though their fighting ability is not outstanding.
Milsantos is known for charging way fees in gems and small items of value. He has no place to store vast quantities of coins, and keeps his treasure with him.

Tharch of Thazalhar. This tharch controls the trade routes between Pyarados and the Mulhorand frontier. Its tharchion is Milsantos Daramos, a fighter of considerable experience. Well into his fifties, Daramos rides with his troops and exacts considerable tolls from the caravans and travelers who journey through his tharch. He has decided to ride out the current troubles in Thay and remain neutral, though he secretly opposes Szass Tam.

Daramos is a veteran warrior who claims that his primary duty is service to Thay. Secretly he opposes Szass Tam, but he is bright enough not to admit it.

Mantorra Hennaflame: Mantorra Hennaflame (LE hf Inv8) is hardly a stereotypical representative of the ruling Red Wizard mages. The only daughter of Daramos, Tharchion of Thazalhar, Mantorra manipulated her father’s connections and influence to get herself apprenticed to Aznar Thrul at an early age. Ever since, she has avoided using her family name, seeking to make her own way in the world.

Thazalhar is the smallest of the tharchs outside of the islands of the Alaor. It covers much of the land between the River Thazarim and the River of Dawn. This gives Tharchion Milsantos Daramos (LN male human Ftr14) complete control over any land routes between Thay and Mulhorand. In the realm's earliest days, this tharch was a vital point of defense between Thay and its old master. For a long time after that, it was a launching point for Thayan troops rolling into Mulhorand. Today, it is a primary conduit of trade between the two formerly bitter enemies.
Daramos is the only one of the tharchions who is not evil, and it shows in the way he governs his territory. Many of the other tharchions - and even some of the zulkirs - think the old man has gotten soft in his later years. In fact, Daramos has never cared for killing, but he saw it as necessary to protect the interests of his people. He's thrilled with the growing success of the trade enclaves. A true patriot, Daramos hopes this method will finally allow the vicious Thayans to lay aside their differences and work together. He knows he is past his prime and has no chance of bringing the factions under a single banner, but perhaps Szass Tam has finally managed it, using money not to purchase weapons but as a weapon. No other land could possibly stand against the might of a united Thay.
Thazalhar's main source of income is the bridge fees it charges to pass over the River of Dawn into Thay (1 sp each for Thayans and 10 gp each for everyone else). Some foreign merchants pay the fees, but many sell their goods at a cut rate to Thayans on the Mulborandi side of the bridge, then turn around and go home again.
