Overland Travel Issues
#1
I am dredging these topics up from the depths of hell where they truly belong. Unfortunately, both have been frustratingly irritating since the beginning of (Thayan) time. And despite countless changes, tweaks, and even significant rewrites of the travel system, continue to cause problems. I have recently been working to get feedback from TheSupremeForce and those he travels with in regard to both problems - and changes have been made over the last couple days that could have an effect on both problems.

1. When traveling overland, you get jumped to the start location and receive an OOC error message indicating a problem
I hope the changes will even further reduce or possibly eliminate this problem from occurring, although I’ve said that so many times about this problem that not even I can truly believe that it might be fixed at this point. I have included better debug information should the problem occur which *may* help identify the cause. If it does happen to you, use this thread to let me know the time and date it occurred and as many details about what happened prior to the transport back to Tyraturos as you can remember. Were you alone or in a party, where were you traveling, how far had you gone after leaving a city/town/castle, had you done any fighting in the area, how long ago had you left the area previous to the problem area, and anything else you think could have caused the transport to go ‘wrong’.

2. When traveling overland, you get jumped to the wrong side of the next area
This problem is likely still an issue. However, I need to try and narrow down any more possible details about it. I am now writing debug lines to the server logs every time someone uses an overland transition. *IF* you end up on the wrong side of the map when transitioning across overland areas, post here letting me know the time and date it occurred so I can check the logs – as well as any additional information you can think of that could have caused the jump.
According to recent testing by some players, it appears that if you do end up on the wrong side of the map, if you simply wait a few seconds, you will be jumped to the correct side. I would like to find out from others if this is true for you as well.

Important Notes:
---------------------------------------
When you receive the following message, it is not an error:
“You must wait awhile longer before beginning another league of travel.”

The reason for this is twofold. The first one is due to the overland system mechanics to ensure overland areas have a chance to get properly reset when players leave them, but the second is because your character has just traveled a league - it's not like they just hopped over a street like they do in cities and towns. They need a bit of a rest to do it again. So when you get that message, it means you’ve traveled a league once within the last 30 seconds and need to wait before going another league.

In addition, again, just as an FYI, I have recently removed the restriction that your entire party must be nearby to travel to the next league. Now each person needs to reach the edge of the current area to travel the next league rather than grouping together and only one person do the traveling.
---------------------------------------

I request that ALL overland area problems be confined to this thread. Fixing overland area transitions problems is (once again) my highest priority at this time. However, do *not* post about problems you had yesterday, a week ago, or a month ago since there have been changes as recently as last night that *may* have changed/fixed /resolved when or if they happen. So as of this exact point in time, if you encounter an overland area travel problem, please post it here with as many details as you can think of. Walls of text are great. Single sentences or uninformative posts are not.

20:48 CET.

"W" key to move (Which is bound as RUN forward) I get jumped ahead.

Travelling from Tyraturos to Amruthar.
Two weapons equipped, travelling in a party of two (Me and Adrian).
Jump happens about 4 tiles after leaving Tyraturos and after killing a bandit archer with the body model of a old gray-haired woman that walks awkwardly.
I did not move after the jump but was not jumped 'back' to where I was supposed to be.

To clarify my request above (and this should be something for any future posters as well), please include the direction you were travelling and the side of the map you ended up on. And for any others who post who may experience this problem - please post if you are also using the keyboard or mouse for movement when the problem occurs.

So Wings, in your case, you were traveling West and ended up on the West side of the next area, rather than the East side, correct?
If so, when you jumped, did it tell you specifically that "You have traveled one league to the west"? Did you receive any other messages at the time you were traveling to the next league? Was this on a Road or Plains area?

Correct on all questions and it was a road.

Are you *sure* you were jumped to the west side of the area? The logs are telling me that you were both supposed to jump to the south side of the area as you were travelling north from area 556 to area 530 (which is only one league east of Amruthar). You're certain you weren't jumped to the north side of the map? Can you confirm you *were* travelling north from this area when the problem occurred?

I travel overland extensively with my new character and as of yet I've not experienced this problem. However, I have noticed one difference in the way Wings and I move about:

I use the mouse only for my movement. I pretty much only use keyboard movement for fine-tune walking about, like getting through gates and facing other PCs.

Pluto is still a planet.

Thought I might make a copy/paste list for those who want to have an easier time filling in the blanks and write what's relevant. (By personal experience!)

Time:

Character name:

Account name:

Type of tile (Road, plains, forest etc):

Traveling direction (North, west, east, south):

Jumped to (North, west, east, south):

Error message ("Wait before traveling another league..."):

Closest Static Area (Town, Keep, city etc):

Mouse (to move) or keyboard:

Party member(s):

Fights in previous tile:

Tried standing still to jump back:

Additional information:

Edit: Added another line. "Closest Static Area".

Found another one of these. Here are the details:

6:12 PM CST

I was on Mason Reaves, account name RazoRaid245.

Type of tile is plains.

I was travelling to the West from one overland tile, to find myself already in the Western edge as opposed to the Eastern edge of the next tile. More specificaly, from Eltabbar Southwest district western gate to River.

I also got an error message telling me I had to wait more time before travelling another league.

I used the mouse to move. I was not in a party, nor was there anyone else there. Also, there were no fights whatsoever from the previous tile.

Trying to stand still for several minutes made no difference.

So some clarification here, which I will also put in the original post:

Unfortunately, the debug information in the logs is not proving a great help since for both these reports they are telling me that you each should have been jumped to the correct side of the map. And in the case were there were two people in Wing’s party, the log provided me the exact same information for each, so it *appears* there may be something other than the overland travel code causing the problem. I also see Razor jumped back and forth between Eltabbar and the same overland location multiple times before the problem happened, so if that can be replicated, let me know the details.

However, there may be a pattern forming. To try and verify this pattern, I'd also like you to let me know for any future reports if you were next to a ‘static’ area like a city (Etlabbar, Tyraturos, etc), town, castle, or point of interest (like the High Road Escarpment). Both these reports were right next to a static area, and testing done by Force and Prinny so far seems to indicate the jumping problem has a better chance of happening around the High Road Escarpment area.
