Talvass Darmine

//For any DMs who might be interested in throwing in some background-specific stuff Tal's way.

Talvass Darmine was born in Thay, but spent most of his life travelling the lands of Faerun with his parents. He returned to Thay in adulthood and eventually settled in around Tyraturos. He spends most of his time travelling between Tyraturos and Bezantur, where he is an Associate Member of the Guild of Foreign Trade, and where the Temple of Oghma, his patron God, is. Recently he purchased a small home in Eltabbar, just off the Avenue of Columns. It is his intention to, along with Ralphie, to rent out one of the rooms to a merchant.

He has fit in well with those he's encountered, tempering his words around superiors or those he suspects would take umbrage to more Thayan attitudes and actions. Talvass has attained an almost insatiable thirst for information, constantly asking questions of people. Recently he has been trying to pick up on customs of the Drow and words and phrases of undercommon in his recent, Red Wizard funded ventures into the Underdark.

He is a smooth talker, able to sweet-talk commoners with honeyed words and gentle music. This should not be mistaken for true kindness, however. If Talvass could obtain rumors through threats of violence, bribery, or theft, he would. He's also used magical spells to charm people he wants information from or merchants he thinks should offer a better deal.

While easily explained (and perhaps concealed as) the natural inquisitive nature of a bard, Tal truly desires information for its value and power. While he has a long way to go, it is his intention to set himself up as an information broker or spymaster. For that reason he has aligned himself with the Guild of Foreign Trade. The roles of merchants and spies are not always separated, and there is no doubt that the Guild's resources, power, and network of merchants could be used to help attain this goal. As he has grown in notoriety enough to attract assassination attempts, he has built himself a small network of informants through gold and persuasion. Now he wonders if he can do the same for information.

He has also been amassing a small collection of rare books and scrolls. Eventually he will need to purchase a larger home, a private one for himself, where he can store the documents he has been gathering.
