Beds
#1
Hello.

Ive recently noticed that everyone seems to be in 'need' and therefore uses the Ilmater Temple beds, rather than spend a few talons and get a proper inn room. :s

So I was just wondering why people use the Ilmater beds?
I mean the place is full of sick people and beggars who smell of their own poo.

I would also like to know this as well Sten.

It's entirely possible that miscreants and Ilmater-haters may come and destroy the beds there sometime soon too since they are getting so well know. There's always some jackass in Thay just being plain mean and...er...evil. ;)

I'm looking forward to this evil person's arrival at the Temple.

Cain tried to trash the temple a while ago... sadly, it turns out everything inside is invulnerable or not targettable. The only result was some bloody priests with broken jaws. And mashed potato dinners for a while.

could try putting a donation box or maybe move the beds into an upstairs part...?

There is a Donation's chest between the two bunk beds. THo I think few have noticed it.

thought that was more for just storage for the priests and followers like with other temples...? thought maybe could be use them if they left a donation?

But what would the point be then?, a donation of 7 Talons to the temple for a bed, where you share room with sick and homeless people who smell?

or 7 Talons for a room where you live alone, maybe even have two beds who are of far better quality. And the place doesn't smell of poo (Most likely)

Agreed Sten. But I think it comes down to the path of least resistance in many cases. Not to get too philosophical, but many of us are inherently lazy (I’m including myself as well) and will take whatever is quickest and easiest - even in NWN and even if there’s probably not a good RP-able reason for doing so. It’s a small area that quickly loads, and it is only a one-area transition from, and right next to, the central gathering place to get to these beds - even if a ‘donation’ is required. In my opinion, these factors will continue to make it more attractive than having to take the (more proper?) RP-able route to go through two area transitions and spend a little extra time talking to the tavern owner to get to a room in the Rusty Anchor, for example.

So...

As it turns out, free beds are unclean beds. The Temple of Ilmater is now no exception. For those who truly worship him above all others, or for those who are truly in need (the -relatively- destitute new arrivals to Thay, for example), the filth covering those beds likely won’t bother you. For all the pretenders, cheapskates, and individuals who wouldn’t know Ilmater from their arse though...they’ll be taking their chances. ;)

I would like to point out that there are other cheap (and in a few cases - free...for now) places to rest in Bezantur and beyond that haven’t been so filth-ridden (yet). So for penny-pinchers among you who still hate to pay for lodging, you do have alternatives.

Oh well, I know of a Temple member that takes care of "donations" from that chest...
