Fellow Thayans - the time is drawing near. Yes, that most glorious time in all of Faerûn history – the Time of Troubles! For those of you unaware of this period, please check out the following sites if you’d like a little background:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_of_Tro...en_Realms)
http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Time_of_troubles
According to source lore, the Time of Troubles runs for about 4 months starting in the middle of 1358 DR (Kythorn 1 to Marpenoth 15). This equates to about 4-5 weeks real-time assuming we have it last as long in-game as it does in the source material (which may not occur).
In Thay, we will be experiencing this period shortly which will have some strange side effects. As part of the gods being made (powerful) mortals, magic in the Realms is unstable during this time. This means for PC and NPC spellcasters, there is a good chance that *any* spell cast will result in a Wild Magic surge. This could cause a simple Light spell to erupt in a Fireball, for example. Or an Ice Storm could turn into a swarm of butterflies, etc, etc.
I mention this because I would like all our players to be aware (and please let new players know as well), that being a spellcaster and using virtually any magic during this time is going to be very unpredictable. You may want to be very careful with your adventuring as even potions and relied-upon magic items may act in unexpected ways.
If anyone has any questions/concerns/comments on this time period, post here. I will also be sure to post again once the Time of Troubles has official began in-game.
