Here's the obligatory "I'm not afraid of either" option, because in trying to look like fearless bad-asses, people show that they're too afraid to face their own fears, which makes them the worst kind of coward and we should pity them.

Cube vs. Cube*

Have to agree with Feawen here.... not truly 'afraid' of either... but wise enough to know when my PCs are bested... especially when you see the dissolved bodies of other baddies. And yes... it's fun watching them roll over anything, especially the other oozes so long as I'm not in the way :P

Hey! Put that spoiler valuable public service announcement back where you found it! :P

(And there's something surreal about watching an aballin "digest" an ochre jelly to death. Have you ever seen that?)

lol quite the disciplinarian.

...and Corella's aballin food. And she was doing so well, too (aside from losing two Levels to the enchantment forge). Then along came a lag spike while she was opening a door so she could run through and slam it in the aballin's face. The lag spike said "Oh no, Wids, you're fighting the damned thing." She auto-fought it. She got chain-paralyzed. She went down. She stopped bleeding. The aballin, sitting on top of her, sizzled her again. This time, she didn't get back up.

Seriously, is it just me or are aballins just a little OP for Level 5?

Like a lot of monsters, they can prove quite difficult at one level.. then two levels later they are an afterthought. Sometimes, places are best avoided until you have the capability to handle what lies there.

I dunno about that. My Level 9 character still avoids aballins like the touch of Death, even after chewing through several gelatinous cubes (and the usual darkenbeasts, medusas, manticores and so on).

The ichor quest probably isn't worth the hassle, though. I'm thinking of dropping it and seeing who else has a quest available.

If this were a war, it would be time to change tactics.

Best to travel with someone. The icor quest is worth it. Invest in an underwater helm. There are other places besides Bezantur sewers to collect.

New tactics? Like never setting foot in a sewer ever again for any reason, because if an aballin spawns right next to you, you're as good as dead? I think I can do that.

So can I hire Hargobble Kug to run out and fetch about 15 Ichors? That sounds like a viable tactic too (aside from the bit about him supposedly being unavailable for hire at the moment). :P

Well, it took me about a month and a half to come back, though first I had to surmount the "Rarrrgh, I'm so angry and emotional and frustrated and hormonal and having a bad week and ragequit!!!" stage, which was followed closely by the "Oh, damn, I was such an angsty prig and I want to go back but I'm too ashamed to show my face around the forums and the server again and face the music" stage, which was then followed by the "Damn it, self, a bunch of stupid aballins aren't worth chucking the entire server aside, and it's still your favorite server despite the aballins, and Legacy of the North isn't nearly as good, and neither is Forgotten Realms: Cormyr, and Thay is really the only server where you're actually having fun and being something more significant than boot-polishing ego fodder for some other player's Epic-Level PC, so you'd better just swallow your pride already, get back in there and apologize for being a whiny brat" stage. So, you know, I apologize for being a whiny brat. Mea maxima culpa. :(

I suppose that Jaliskar has actually fared pretty well against aballins, and if I had to pin down what makes her so handy against them, I'd have to say that it's a combination of Acid resistance and high Reflex saves. If I can get all of my characters whatever items they need to buff Acid resistance and Reflex saves, aballins might become something less than moist, slithering chunks of inevitable death.

Well, I guess I'd better see if I can pick Corella off the ground, stand her up straight and wipe all the slime off her face. She's pretty handy against undead, so maybe I should focus on that. I wonder if she might stumble across any ochre jellies in the crypts hither and yon.... :-/
