Speaking of holidays, remember when I made this thread? Since then, we've established that Thay's March 15 (for example) usually won't coincide with our March 15, and several days in Thay pass for every one of our days. So how do we go about setting up holiday celebrations and events on this server, now that I think about it?

Start with a bit of math; 4 in game days in one real day, about a month for each real week ... then add coordination and flexibility and *poof* Holiday celebration.

That was a bit difficult to calculate, wasn't it? ;)

The Pirate Isles server had a "one day here = one day there" thing going, so one of the eariliest things I did with Serrica was to buy a bazillion red roses on April/Tarsakh 29 (temporarily breaking the "No more than five containers in your inventory" rule to do so), wait for the next day and completely smother Palaggar with roses. And even though she was a scheming Chaotic Evil bitch, she still had a soft spot for children, and there was one NPC boy scampering around town, so she would take off after him and try to give him money and roses. Then Serrica and a bunch of other PCs settled around the town firepit, drinking ale and telling stories all evening. Because Greengrass is like that. :)

That time-and-date system was a bit disconcerting once you realized that even on that server, the sun would rise and set several times during each real-world day, so there would be four sunsets, but it's still Tarsekh 1st. And while I know that it's possible for a server world's admin to tinker with time's passage to the point that one hour in-game matches one real-world hour, can you imagine what that server would be like? A night that lasts as long as our own night? Man, that would suck...especially on servers like Prisoners of the Mist, where most PCs have to stay inside all night because that's when the really bad monsters spawn outside.

I guess that players have to compromise in some way or another no matter what any given server's time settings are. So whose characters are up for setting up a titanic feast and getting drunk, fat and stupid come Highharvestide? :D

I guess it's something else to fill the Events and Happenings forum with, though; just figure out exactly when the next holiday's coming (with one or two calculators and a few uses of the in-game sundials), then plan ahead accordingly. Or consult the DMs for those holidays which don't have set dates, like First Tide. "Hey, everybody! Thayan says that the winter ice is breaking up on February 8th. That means First Tide! Come on down to Bezantur on February 8th, around 6 PM (CST) and watch those wacky clerics of Umberlee try to drown a horse! Bring the kids!" :D

Okay, so after a lengthy pitched guerilla battle (with Corella killing a Boar, two Summoned Dire Wolves, a Druid Avenger, a Hobgoblin Hunter, an Orc Savage, a Summoned Dire Bear and another Half-Dragon Cleric, all in the same small Plains area just outside Tyraturos), Corella now has two unconverted Priest's Robes which she has to tailor into clever mockeries of the religious garments worn by the priests of other churches and other gods, then run those disguises up to Nethjet for the obligatory Bluff bonuses. Djed gave me the idea for a Setite cleric (from commenting that Corella was "talking like a Setite" while in her Cyricist disguise), but then she'd have to spend a bunch of time in the Temple of Set in Moszabbar, learning to play the role (since I don't think she would have had opportunities to learn a whole lot about Set, his church and his tenets before coming to Thay).

So which god's church's clergy do you suppose Corella should mimic next? :D

...yyyeah. Corella's not really into the whole "Showing more skin than a burlesque dancer" thing. Sorry. :D

A Gondar disguise might be worth considering, though.
