New Thay PW Hak Testing
#21
Just remembered another suggestion I've been holding but makes sense now that you're making and modifying spells. Was thinking gate should summon based on alignment, instead of functioning basically as "summon balor". Solars would seem like the obvious good counterpart, but I can't think of anything for neutral. Also a question, the new spell list has glyph of warding as a level 3 spell, which it already is in stock NWN. I guess it's modified from standard implementation somehow?

Also, will the mass cure/inflicts be spontaneous castable?

I guess by modifying the existing Glyph of Warding I did set myself up for the requests to modify other existing spells. But yes, Glyph of Warding has been changed because I wanted to implement Greater Glyph of Warding. With both those spells, you'll now be able to choose the type of elemental damage the glyph will do when you cast it (the spell will have radial options to choose which type).

I'll put down Gate as something to look at in the future, but as any modification of that casting will not require custom content changes (like the Glyph did to make it a radial-option spell) that must go in the hak, it probably won't be modified until a later server update.

Mass Cure/Inflict can be cast spontaneously.

If we did make changes to gate, I do not think it should be alignment based. Instead it should be a radial menu to select one of three summons, one for each alignment. Some sort of celestial for good, perhaps a slaad or a genie for neutral, and of course the iconic balor for evil. A death slaad would be closest to a balor in terms of cr. There aren't too many celestial to choose from in the standard template, so I can't really make any suggestions on that one.
Tempus' orders to all combatants:
1. Be fearless. 2. Never turn away from a fight. 3. Obey the rules of war.

I don't know why it shouldn't be alignment based. The other planar summoning spells are alignment based. If we put Gate on a radial we should put them all on a radial. Heck, go ahead and put Create Undead & Create Greater Undead on radials too... Logical consistency is more important than people realize. Also I happen to know from experience on previous PWs that making the spell alignment based is a lot easier on the scripter than making it radial, so there's that to consider as well...

I forgot to state that I was basing mine off of the PnP implementation of Gate. It would cover the intention of the PnP version without being overly complex. That being said I did say if we changed the functionality of the spell.

This is a heads-up for the first of a couple of testing sessions I'll hold. This first one will determine exactly how these work, so I'm not sure yet if I will have to use the live server to temporarily hold this testing, or if I can get a test server running on the same network as well (hopefully). I'll provide more details on that when the time comes.

If you are interested in helping test, or want to get a sneak peak at the changes and goodies that are coming, stay tuned to this thread for the IP address and port of the test server, and I will post links to the hak and the tlk file that you will need to download in order to login to it. I would primarily like people to create PCs that will use the new Prestige class changes - but there is some PC vs PC spell testing I'd like to perform as well.

I plan to hold the first testing session from 6-9 PM Central Time on Monday, May 25. If that is free on your calendar too, I could certainly use the assistance.

I'll be posting the link for the required test hak and tlk file within the next few hours as its in the process of uploading to the Thay OneDrive site right now. In the meantime, can someone please confirm that you can indeed see and Direct Connect to the test server? It is located at 65.101.102.74:5122. You won't be able to login though since the required hak isn't uploaded yet, and this has no server vaults on it so you will not see characters when you login either.

I can second the above post - no connection, server not responding (timed out).

Well, guess I'll have to cancel tonight's planned test session as I can't get the server to display. At most now, I'm looking at *maybe* taking down the live server for a few hours and putting up a test server in its place sometime next weekend.
